Y Combinator update, BBC Viewpoint
We just had ‘prototype day’, in which all of the Y Combinator fundees did a quick demo on what they’ve built so far to the other startups.
It was extremely useful. It forced us to start thinking about the upcoming investor day, where we present to a roomful of 70 of the most powerful people in Silicon Valley, which happens in less than a month.
And this has made the past few days quite hectic. The fear of having to show exactly what you have been working on to all your fellow entrepreneurs is a strong motivator. But that’s meant that we have made real progress, and we should be able to release our new product this week. Woo.
So my first viewpoint piece has been published on the Beeb. It outlines some of the reasons that motivated us to come out here, but I hope it doesn’t come across as too negative about the UK scene, as there is good stuff starting up here and here. Also, we did raise our first Angel investment from British investors, which goes to show, that if you are persistent, it’s possible to find that investment.
It’s just that the ‘ecosystem’ is not as good as out here – I wish there were more people willing to take early-stage risk when it’s just an idea, an entrepreneur and a market.
All in all Y Combinator has been fantastic so far. I’ll be writing more updates soon.

hi kul,
i read about your entrepreneurial project from BBC.
After reading the article there in business-bbc, the first thing which i did was to log in to your site. It is a fantastic site especially a place where people can put there items on sale and also those they want to discard it and do not expect any charge ie, free.
Its feel great to know that a qualified man like you left your lucrative investment bank jon and rather choose this rare but yet one of the challenging career of entrepreneur. Its good to read that you have demonstrated your strategy, plan and ideas about boso.com to venture capitalsits and have already received a funding for the same.
I wish you a good luck for the same and wish that Boso.com, your brainchild turn out to be a huge success and grows by leaps and bound y-o-y.
With Best Wishes,
Niranjan. From India
Just read your article on the beeb, sounds like an entrepreneurial opportunity if ever I heard one … funnel all the great opportunities in Sili Valli to the talent in other locations. It must be possible to flip the advantages gained by geo-locality, maybe all that’s needed is a few middle-men, or a really cool website that redefines the market-place (c(apital)-bay)…?

Got here through the Beeb, good stuff son, keep it up, i actually head about boso a while ago when i was back at uni in Warwick. kirill makherinsky came and did a talk at Warwick entrepreneurs event. nice to see that you left the corporate world lol.
I do have a question. I want to spend a couple to 3 weeks in the valley in the summer, and experience life there, how did you make the transition. Or did you know people there b4 who set you up?
Keep it up
